About Ballard’s Beach
Building on the location of a late-1800s hotel on the breakwaters of the Old Harbor on Block Island, Paul Filippi, the father of the current operator of the beach resort, Steve Filippi, founded Ballard’s Beach Resort in 1956.
With a historic inn and hotel, a quarter-mile-long private beach, an oceanfront restaurant, and daily live music, Ballard’s Beach Resort has become the premier beach destination on Block Island for visitors and locals to take a load off and enjoy everything that ocean living has to offer.
A Block Island Tradition of Live Music
For decades, Ballard’s Beach Resort has hosted world-class musicians on its huge oceanfront stages. At its annual festivals, rock, reggae, and country musicians such as Sebastian Bach and Big & Rich play to thousands of beachgoers out for a bit of fun in the sun. The Ultimate Summer Party, Ballard’s 4th of July Weekend Bash, brings a young audience of music listeners to Block Island for the annual parade and fireworks.
A Block Island Tradition of Award-Winning Seafood
But Ballard’s Beach Resort isn’t just daily live music – the food is as good as the sounds! Lobster 13 ways is the highlight of the menu, and locally-sourced oysters, Rhode Island’s best little neck clams, and fish caught from Block Island sound echo the history of Block Island’s past as a commercial fishing hotbed.
And the tradition continues today, with Ballard’s Beach Resort celebrating its decades of culinary excellence by winning the 2019 Block Island Maritime Institute ChowdaFest against other long-standing Block Island restaurants.
A Block Island Tradition of Beachside Romance
Rhode Island’s Best Beach isn’t just for nightlife and dining. For decades, happy couples have taken in the New England sea air while committing themselves to each other’s love. Whether it’s the days before the event for rehearsal dinners, the night before for a bachelor or bachelorette party to remember, or the moment that the happy couple will never forget, Ballard’s Beach Resort has been the best location for weddings on Block Island.
A Block Island Tradition
Ballard’s Beach Resort has been the place to be on Block Island for over 65 years. Whether it’s the most beautiful moment in someone’s life, a traditional Block Island seafood dinner, raucous music-filled festivals, or a fun-filled day at the beach, Ballard’s Beach Resort has the Block Island Tradition to make your trip to one of the most historic places in the country a lasting memory.
